Samsung starts manufacturing 14-inch 90Hz OLED displays

Samsung has begun manufacturing 90Hz OLED displays, which you'll first see on ASUS' newest laptops - the ZenBook 14X Pro and Vivobook Pro 14X. The 14-inch panel has a 2,880 x 1,800 resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio. Its release is significantly delayed as Samsung announced it was supposed to arrive in March 2021. But with the ongoing pandemic, we aren't surprised that it took the company a bit more time to manufacture the display.

This extra speed compared to a 60Hz OLED panel can theoretically improve the gaming experience. Samsung says OLED tech creates less blurring when it comes to motion than LCD panels. The company claims you'll see clearer movement on this OLED panel than you would on a 120Hz LCD. And if that is true, that means you get a pretty sharp gaming experience on a display that won't demand as much on your computer's GPU.

Better colours are another benefit of an OLED screen. It has 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage that beats most LCD panels. It also offers deeper blacks, improved viewing angles, and faster response times. The downsides are this panel's lack of brightness and lower energy efficiency when you're viewing bright content.
