The Most Anticipated Esports Tournaments in 2022

Esports are big business. Esports are multiplying quickly. Even experts cannot agree upon their net value. The average number they seem to cling to is 1.8 billion to 3 billion in net worth by the end of 2022. As we look at the esports tournaments scheduled for 2022, these numbers do not seem too far-fetched. The excitement for these tournaments is global.

 Companies like Louis Vuitton and Mercedes-Benz are lining up to sponsor it all. Below, we will list some of the most anticipated events scheduled for the current year. Please note: this is not all of them and some information is not available yet.

League of Legends Worlds 2022

There is no esports tournament as important as League of Legends Worlds. This is the most prestigious and popular tournament globally in the esports community. Dates and times are yet to be confirmed about Worlds 2022 so far. But, the event usually takes place between  September and November. So, we expect it will be in that time frame. We will have to wait to see if EDward Gaming can hold on to their title. The tournament prize is a $2.25 million prize pool.

THE INTERNATIONAL 2022

Though Dota 2 esports has gone through some changes in the past year or so, TI is still a unique sensation in the world of gaming competition. The single largest event in esports offers enormous amounts of money, 

With help from community contributions, the International esports tournament had a record-making prize pool of over $40 million prize pool last year. Team Spirit’s victory was one of the biggest gaming surprises of the year.

The 2021-2022 DPC season will finish in the form of The International, featuring 20 teams instead of the normal 18, due to the re-introduction of a wildcard LAN qualifier to determine the final spots event.

PGL ANTWERP Counter Strikes: GO MAJOR

Counter-Strike is in the top numbers for most popular esports games globally. They are the tournaments co-sponsored by Valve. Winning them guarantees that your team will go down in history. PGL will get to host back-to-back CS:GO Majors, taking one of the most popular esports tournaments to Antwerp, Belgium, this time around.

It will be the first event of the year between May 9 and May 22. With $1 million will be on the line. No team will get a direct invitation to this event. Qualifications through Regional Major Ranking events apply to everyone.

VALORANT CHAMPIONS 2022

  • Riot Games contribute a huge amount of effort to Valorant esports. They seem to be seen as a major player in space. Primarily because of  Valve’s many aggressive decisions about the CS: GO ecosystem.

  • Valorant is basically the shadow of CS: GO and Overwatch, a team-based class-shooter with extremely similar objectives to the Counter-Strike formula. Add Riot’s extreme micromanagement and talent to the mix, and you’ve got a strong contender in the FPS genre.

  • Last year, the Valorant Champions took the crown, becoming the first team in Valorant history. They become world champions. The competitive hierarchy of Valorant is very similar to League’s, with a season of regional leagues culminating in a massive tournament for all the prizes. Whether it will become the peak of online gaming tournaments and video game competitions as a whole remains to be seen.

FIDE CANDIDATES TOURNAMENT 2022

Chess is now an Esport. It’s now a reality, with Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura casually pulling 10 000+ viewers on his Twitch streams. The big chess tournaments are getting regular popular live coverage. This makes chess the biggest chess event in the world and merits a mention on the list of the esports events of the year. This is an event that may change the course of Chess in the future.
