Apple's Tap to Pay on iPhone gets Adyen as a partner

We've learned about Apple's plan to introduce a "Tap to Pay on iPhone" option back in February. The feature allows compatible iPhones to accept payments through Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and other digital wallets without using extra hardware. Small businesses that accept NFC contactless payment will have an easier time receiving payment using an iPhone XS or newer. The customers can just hold out their iPhone, Apple Watch, digital wallet or contactless card to complete the payment. The feature does put it up against options like Square.

Ahead of its launch, Apple announced Stripe was its sole partner for the feature. But this week, the company said it'll also be working with Adyen. The Dutch payment processing company will work with Apple to offer the option to US customers later this year. Adyen will work with enterprise customers and commerce platforms (including Lightspeed Commerce and NewStore) to expand the number of businesses using Tap to Pay. Apple hasn't given a specific launch date for Tap to Pay yet, but it'll launch in the US first.
