Amazon introduces Halo Rise bedside clock, sleep tracker
One of the recent products Amazon launched is a new accessory for the bedroom. The Halo Rise is a hybrid sleep tracker and bedside clock to help you figure out your sleep patterns. This device uses sensors (a radar of sorts) to determine how well you sleep and for how long. It also displays a digital clock and has a small speaker for alarm tones. Amazon wanted to stress that this bedroom device has no microphones or cameras. But with its sensors it promises to track things like respiration.
According to Amazon, its algorithms are specific to you, so it monitors your respiration, not your significant other's or your pet, if you share a bed with them. You just need to indicate which side of the bed you sleep. It'll automatically start monitoring when it senses you're bed. It will send your breathing patterns anonymously to the Amazon Cloud for analysis. Amazon says the patterns are encrypted in transit and automatically deleted from the system and database 10 days later.
The lights on the Halo Rise work as a reading light at night or to help simulate a sunrise, allowing you to wake gently to the light. It knows what stage of sleep you're in, so it knows when you're going from deep to light sleep. We don't know about international availability yet. But the Amazon Halo Rise will retail in the US for US$139.99 (around CA$192) with six months of Amazon Halo membership.
