Apple's new iPhone 14 Pro, Pro Max gets new camera, pill notch

In case you've missed the news, Apple has also updated its Pro line of iPhones to bring some long-awaited features. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max finally get a 48-megapixel primary camera with a quad-pixel sensor and its new Photonic Engine for improved low-light photography.
The final photos will mostly be 12-megapixel binned pictures, but this new sensor allows them to crop photos in different ways. It allows this iPhone to offer true 2x zoom at a 48mm focal length and even optimize details in Apple's ProRAW format. There is also a new ultrawide camera with macrophotography and 3x low-light improvement. These Pro models also support cinematic mode at 4K at 30 or 24 frames per second.
Apple also introduces an always-on display to complement the new lockscreen widget it offers with iOS 16. And it uses the new pill notch as a design element. Apple calls the new feature its Dynamic Island option, which can display notifications and other functions besides the Pro and Pro Max's. Examples we've seen at the keynote include system notifications, music controls, and more.
Emergency SOS also comes to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. This feature will frontload some key questions emergency services typically ask so you can get help quickly. It can also be used for the Find My feature to send your location when hiking or camping off the grid.
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max also have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively. They are also the only new iPhones to get the latest A16 Bionic processor, which focuses on improving power efficiency, display, and camera.
Apple's doing away with the SIM tray in the US versions of its new iPhones. We're not sure when that'll extend to other markets, but for now, it's important to note as it wants to shift to eSIMs.
Both models will be available in deep purple, silver, gold, and space black in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities. The iPhone 14 Pro series became available for pre-order starting September 9, with in-store availability on September 16.
The Apple iPhone 14 Pro gets a starting price of $1,399, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a starting retail price of $1,549.
