Samsung looks into enhancing security support beyond five years

SamMobile

Samsung is considered a leader in Android operating system and security updates. It provides four years of OS updates and five years of security patches for its devices. However, Samsung is considering extending security support beyond five years, following the industry standards.

This move would be significant after Google’s announcement this week, which will bring seven years of OS and security updates.

According to Shin-Chul Baik, the principal engineer and technical program manager for Samsung’s Mobile eXperience division's Security team, Samsung has been discussing how to offer longer security support for its devices. He also told SamMobile that it aligns with the company's vision to support devices longer and with new regulations coming up.

What they are taking about here though is security updates. They didn't discuss longer support for Android and One UI upgrades.
