A tale of two segments: Apple’s software and hardware results in the fourth quarter
Apple’s latest quarterly earnings report shows a contrast between software and hardware performance. The company announced a new record for its services revenue in its fiscal fourth quarter, as well as a record for iPhone revenue in the September quarter. However, this was not enough to prevent a 1 percent year-over-year decline in overall revenue, which was $89.5 billion. This is the fourth quarter in a row that Apple has seen a drop in revenue.
The company’s hardware performance may improve in the next quarter, as it has recently launched several new products that are not yet available for purchase. These include the new M3 chips, MacBooks, and an iMac. In addition, the new iPhone 15 and Apple Watch models that were released in September may have a bigger impact on sales in the next quarter. Apple is also expected to launch new iPads in November, which could boost its hardware revenue.
The Mac, iPad, and wearables segments suffered a decline in revenue this quarter, with the Mac and iPad segments taking the biggest hits. Apple also generated a lot of buzz with its Vision Pro headset earlier this year, but this product is still in development and is not expected to hit the market until 2024 at the earliest. With the holiday season approaching and more product launches coming up, Apple’s hardware products may see a rebound in the next quarter.
