OnePlus 11 debuts with a sub-CA$1K starting price
OnePlus latest attempt at a flagship killer has officially debuted in the international market. The OnePlus 11 comes to Canada with a $999 price tag for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model and $1,149 for the 16GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. There's no storage expansion here, so if you need that extra space, you'll have to get the more expensive option. OnePlus pairs that with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor with Android 13-based OxygenOS 13, which we're happy to report is getting four years of software updates instead of the abysmal two in the past.
It gets a reasonably sized 5,000mAh battery that you can top up in just 25 minutes with its 100W SuperVOOC charging support. You can only hit those speeds with the included charging brick and USB-A to USB-C cable. OnePlus takes an unusual approach of not including a USB-C to USB-C cable. But the company reasons that users will bring the cable and the power brick around and the USB-A to USB-C interface is more useful (at least for now) for charging. Unfortunately, there's no wireless charging here, either.
It's one of the price-saving decisions OnePlus made on this phone. Another is that this phone only has an IP64 rating, so that should be good with minimal splashing, but it isn't the kind of phone you can take swimming.
The internal specs aren't the only noteworthy features of this phone. It gets a rather distinctive back panel with a design OnePlus claims is inspired by sportscar and even Swiss watches. The camera array takes up most of the shiny back panel on the Eternal Green option. (There's also a matte Titan Black variant.) That triple camera system includes a new 50-megapixel camera with a larger 1/1.56-inch sensor than its predecessor, a 48-megapixel 115-degree ultra camera that pulls double-duty for macro photography, and a new 32-megapixel telephoto camera. It's a zoom lens built more for getting you better bokeh shots in Portrait mode (to mimic the look of the 65mm Hasselblad lens). So, the tradeoff is optical zoom tops out at 2x. In front, you get a 16-megapixel selfie camera.
In the display department, the OnePlus 11 gets a 6.7-inch LTPO3 Fluid AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. (The back is protected by Gorilla Glass 5.) And if you've been waiting for the alert slider to make a comeback, we're happy to say it's here.
