Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 to land on midrange phones this month
Qualcomm is gearing up to launch its newest midrange chipset later this month. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is expected on devices from Xiaomi's Redmi to Realme. It won't be as powerful as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but it still gets upgraded from the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Qualcomm promises a 50% performance improvement over its predecessor, with speeds up to 2.91GHz.
GPU performance improves by two times and power efficiency by 13%. On-device AI is "integrated across the entire platform." It's expected to get twice the AI performance compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and 40% better per-watt performance. With AI Super Resolution, it should be capable of upscaling game visuals and photos from 1080p to 4K resolution.
For gaming features, it supports volumetric rendering, which can add particle graphics like fog and smoke. Auto variable rate shading should improve performance and power by rendering content that is in focus at full resolution. It then limits the background of a scene to a lower resolution. And then Snapdragon Sound with Qualcomm aptX comes with lossless music streaming and lag-free gaming audio, too.
As for the camera, it supports up to 200MP captures and HDR video with triple exposure from two cameras at once. With 18-bit Triple ISP support, it can easily capture photos in low light. This chipset can capture 30 images and blend its best parts into a single photo for brighter, more colourful, and clearer shots.
When it comes to connectivity, it supports 4G and 5G dual SIMs, with download speeds of up to 4.4Gbps over a data network, thanks to the new X62 5G modem. For Wi-Fi, it supports download speeds of up to 3.6Gpbs.
