iPhone 15 Pro may not come with solid-state buttons after all

Apple fans hoping for touch-sensitive solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro may have to wait longer. A shareholder letter from Cirrus Logic, one of Apple’s main suppliers for the Taptic Engine, suggests that the feature has been delayed or cancelled. Cirrus said that a new product it was working on for this fall would not launch as planned.

The Taptic Engine is the part that enables haptic feedback on the iPhone. Cirrus said in November that it was developing a new high-performance mixed-signal (HPMS) smartphone component in 2023. That is considered the same part category as the Taptic Engine and it hinted at that new solid-state button. This week, it said it had "limited visibility" into this part's future.

If you need a reminder to be skeptical about leaks, this latest report is it. We are months away from the next iPhone, so, most, if not all, the rumoured specs seem like wishful thinking.
