Garmin Fenix 7 Pro targets serious explorers

Garmin has launched the Fenix 7 Pro series, joining the new Epix Pro line. The Fenix 7 Pro series includes solar charging, a powerful LED flashlight, mapping upgrades and a red safety light, all of which are intended to provide greater awareness when training in the dark. The heart rate sensor also got a significant boost, with new optical sensors and sport-specific algorithms that track your pulse rate across a diverse array of activities. However, there is no ECG app, so you'll have to look elsewhere if that's a primary concern.

The Fenix 7 Pro series also introduces a new endurance score and hill score features. The former measures how easy it is to engage in prolonged physical activities, while the latter uses your training data and VO2 Max to gauge your running strength on steep climbs and long ascents. The Fenix 7 Pro boasts an updated mapping system with weather overlays, points of interest and improvements to topographic maps. There are also new preloaded activities like whitewater rafting and motocross. The Fenix 7 Pro is available in multiple sizes and designs, starting at USD 800 (around CAD 1,083).

One of the main advantages of the Fenix 7 Pro series is the improved display. The Fenix 7 Pro models use Memory-In-Pixel (MIP) displays, that are more power efficient, especially in Always On Mode. According to Garmin, the pixels, backlight, and solar panel have been redesigned to improve brightness and power efficiency in different lighting conditions. The Fenix 2 Pro promises 22 days of battery life, 73 hours of GPS tracking or 48 hours with multi-band enabled.

Garmin has also simplified the lineup by making all models have a solar cell on the front, 32GB of storage for offline maps and music, and multi-band GPS. Another change is that now all models have a flashlight. It has two white LEDs and one red LED that can be used as a flashlight, a strobe light, or a safety light for nighttime training.

The Fenix 7 Pro series offers a range of features that cater to different activities and environments, but it also comes at a price. Users who want more detailed maps can also opt for Garmin’s Outdoor Maps Plus subscription for USD 49.99 (~CAD 68) yearly, which adds satellite imagery, public land maps, and enhanced topographical maps to the wrist. The Fenix 7 Pro series is available now on Garmin's website and select retailers. It launched alongside the Garmin Epix 2 Pro.
