What is the USB-C adapter on Apple’s Vision Pro headset?

Screenshot: MacRumors

Apple’s Vision Pro headset has a mysterious USB-C adapter on the right side, as seen in the Platforms State of the Union video for developers. Some people on social media have speculated about its function, but there is no clear answer yet.

The adapter seems to have a USB-C cable connected to a Mac Studio in one scene, but it is hard to tell. This could mean that the adapter allows visionOS app developers to link their headsets to a Mac and use Xcode. However, this is just a guess, and the adapter’s true purpose remains unknown.

The headset’s external battery pack is on the left side, so the adapter isn't related to that. Vision Pro is expected to launch in early 2024, so we expect more information in the next few months. Apple will also release Vision Pro developer kits in July, which might shed some light on the adapter.
