What you need to know about the Nothing phone (2)

Photo: Nothing

The Nothing Phone (2) is the latest smartphone from the London-based company, with a sleek and symmetrical design. Its looks don't stray too far from its predecessor. But it comes with a few improvements to the rear panel, particularly its Glyph interface.

The Glyph interface consists of several LED segments that can be customized and used for different purposes. For example, you can use it as a visual countdown, to check delivery progress, or see the volume level on the back of your phone. You can also enable Essential Glyph Notifications, which will keep one LED on until you check an important message. You can also make your Nothing phone (2) more personal by choosing different lights and sounds for your contacts and apps.

This smartphone also has a 6.7-inch OLED display with an adaptive refresh rate, a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, and a dual 50-megapixel camera array on the back. The Nothing phone (2) also boasts an advanced ISP, HDR, and Motion Capture 2.0 for stunning photos and videos. It can record 4K at 60fps with the rear camera and 1080p at 60fps with the 32-megapixel front camera, with Action Mode and EIS/OIS for smooth and stable footage on the rear.

The Nothing phone (2) has a bigger 4,700mAh battery that is expected to last longer and perform faster with the Qualcomm chip. You can charge the phone (2) wirelessly or use a cable to get 50% battery in 20 minutes.

This smartphone also comes with the Nothing OS 2.0 software, which is designed to help you use your phone more intentionally and less distractedly. You can enjoy a new monochrome colour scheme, remove app names for a cleaner look, and access new widgets on your home and lock screen. Nothing OS 2.0 also promises to make apps open twice as fast on the Phone (2). Of course, there are more customization options available, too.

Nothing boasts about its sustainability efforts. The Phone (2) is made from 100% recycled aluminum for the mid-frame, buttons, and SIM tray tip, reducing CO2 emissions by 5kg.

The Nothing phone (2) comes in white and dark gray colours and three different options for RAM and storage: 8/128GB, 12/256GB, and 12/512GB. The prices start from CAD 929, CAD 999, to CAD 1,099. Pre-orders are ongoing, with the device officially coming to stores on July 17 at 4 am ET/1 am PT.
