AirTag fail: A Vancouver thief fooled a car owner with a clever trick

Photo: Apple Insider

A thief in Vancouver foiled Becca Hislop’s attempt to recover her stolen car using an AirTag. Hislop had hidden the device in her car, but the thief found it and attached it to an Evo Car Share vehicle. Hislop followed the AirTag’s signal to a winery in Kelowna, only to realize she had been tricked. She later got her car back with the help of the police, but not without frustration.

“I want this person to get their karma because we work hard for our things and it’s not fair that some people think they can cheat and just take,” she said. AirTags can be useful for finding lost or stolen items, but they can also pose risks if people try to retrieve them on their own. Some cases have resulted in violence and even death, while others have led to injuries and embarrassment.
