Google rolls out Home app support for the oldest Nest camera

Google

Google announced at its I/O annual developer conference earlier this year that users of its first-generation Nest Cam Indoor and Nest Cam Outdoor devices could switch from the old Nest app to the new Home app. Now, indoor camera users can finally make the transition. Google has begun to roll out the feature for the public preview version of its Home app, and it expects to reach all users in a few weeks.

Nest cameras had their own app before Google acquired the company. Google gradually integrated all its smart home products into its Home app, but the oldest Nest cameras remained incompatible. This update allows users on the public preview to access their first-gen Nest Cam Indoor device through the Home app and benefit from its improved camera history experience. Users can also add the camera to their Favorites tab, allowing them to see the feed as soon as they launch the app.

Google said transferring the old Nest Cam models to the Home app would take about 10 minutes. After that, users would no longer need the old app to view the camera’s data and footage, creating a more streamlined experience for many users.
