'Nintendo Switch 2' rumoured to offer backwards compatibility and game enhancements

Universo Nintendo, a website with a track record of accurate Nintendo leaks, claims the Switch successor will boast full backwards compatibility for both physical and digital Switch games. Twitter leaker Centro Leaks shared a translation, indicating both cartridge and eShop titles will be playable on the new console. Additionally, developers will reportedly be able to "enhance" existing Switch games to leverage the improved processing power. This aligns with prior rumours of a graphically boosted The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild running on the new hardware.

The Switch successor (still officially unnamed and referred to as the Nintendo Switch 2) has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months. An industry survey found 8% of developers already working on titles for the new console, while another analyst predicts a 2024 release with an 8-inch LCD screen (instead of the current OLED). While Nintendo remains tight-lipped, the constant rumours suggest something significant is brewing.
