Google Meet gets smarter audio

Google Workspace is upping its video conferencing game with "adaptive audio," a new feature coming to Google Meet that eliminates the need for bulky equipment in many situations (for users with access to advanced features).

This innovative tech automatically detects when multiple laptops are in the same room and seamlessly merges their microphones and speakers. Imagine a meeting where everyone can be heard clearly without having to huddle around a single device! Adaptive audio also reduces echoes and feedback, ensuring a smooth audio experience.

This feature is a boon for smaller businesses and teams that lack dedicated conferencing equipment or face technical difficulties with it. It also grants flexibility in choosing meeting locations. Need to brainstorm in a cafe or huddle in a lounge? No problem, as long as everyone has a laptop!

Google plans to gradually roll out adaptive audio in the coming weeks to specific Google Workspace tiers: Gemini Enterprise, Business, Education, and Education Premium, as well as those with the AI Meetings and Messaging add-on. The feature will be automatically enabled by default, but users can easily turn it off if needed.
