Apple supposedly shifts focus to affordable Vision Pro follow-up

Apple appears to be prioritizing a more affordable mixed reality (MR) headset over the next-generation Vision Pro, according to a new report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Gurman's Power On newsletter details Apple's plans for the "N107," a prototype for a lower-cost headset. This model would reportedly have a narrower field of view than the Vision Pro and might rely on a tethered iPhone or Mac for processing power. This approach would significantly reduce production costs compared to the standalone Vision Pro.

Gurman claims Apple intends to launch the cheaper Vision headset "as early as the end of 2025," which aligns with pre-Vision Pro launch plans. However, achieving a lower price point while maintaining essential features remains a challenge.

The report clarifies that Apple isn't abandoning the high-end market. Development of a second-generation Vision Pro, codenamed "N109," is ongoing. This model is expected to feature a faster processor, improved external cameras, and potentially a lighter, more comfortable design. However, its release is reportedly pushed back to late 2026 at the earliest.
