Time magazine teams up with OpenAI to 'expand access to trusted info'
Time has joined forces with OpenAI in a strategic partnership to bring the magazine's extensive journalistic archive, spanning over 101 years, to OpenAI's AI-powered products (including ChatGPT).
Through a multi-year licensing agreement, OpenAI gains access to Time's vast collection of articles, covers, and historical scans. This will enhance OpenAI's ability to generate informative and well-sourced content. Importantly, citations and links to the original Time.com articles will be included, ensuring transparency and supporting reputable journalism.
According to Mark Howard, COO of Time, this partnership aligns with the company's commitment to innovation and expanding access to reliable information. It comes alongside its recent efforts to embrace new technologies, including the launch of Deep Dive, an AI-powered recommendation tool, and AI-generated audio versions of articles.
OpenAI is no stranger to such partnerships, having previously collaborated with publications like The Atlantic, News Corp, and The Financial Times. Brad Lightcap, COO of OpenAI, emphasized the value of this partnership: "We’re partnering with Time to make it easier for people to access news content through our AI tools, and to support reputable journalism by providing proper attribution to original sources."
