Samsung Galaxy Watch7: All-around wellness tracker with new sleep and training insights

The Samsung Galaxy Watch7 builds on its predecessors' strengths to become a compelling option for everyday wellness tracking. It monitors your daily activity, sleep patterns, workouts, and more.

While the upgrade from Galaxy Watch6 might be minimal, it's a great choice for those who haven't gotten a Galaxy Watch yet. The design remains familiar with a classic round case and two physical buttons. However, the rotating bezel is missing this time around, as Samsung opted to forego the Classic version.

New watchbands, including a stylish ripple design, add a touch of personalization. The Galaxy Watch7 comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes with improved battery life and color options depending on the size.

This year's Galaxy Watch7 introduces two key health features: sleep apnea detection and Vitality Score. Sleep apnea detection is a valuable tool for monitoring potential sleep issues, while Vitality Score provides personalized insights based on sleep, activity, heart rate, and variability. This comprehensive analysis helps you optimize your training intensity or recovery periods.

Of course, the Galaxy Watch7 retains core functionalities like:

  • Tracking over 100 workouts with routine building options
  • Sleep coaching
  • Health monitoring (ECG, blood pressure, and heart rate)
  • Body composition analysis

Samsung's improved BioActive Sensor promises more accurate readings, and the dual-frequency GPS ensures precise location tracking. You can also control your Galaxy smartphone, answer calls, manage messages, and more. Notably, the Samsung Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra are the first Wear OS 5 smartwatches for Android.

Unfortunately, the Galaxy Watch7 loses the Wireless PowerShare feature that allowed previous models to charge on the back of compatible smartphones. The culprit is the redesigned BioActive sensor, which affects the distance between the charging coil and the phone.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Watch7 looks like a promising option for those seeking a capable all-around health and fitness tracker. It offers valuable new features and improved performance, making it a strong contender in the smartwatch market.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch7 will come in a few colour options: the Small (40mm) will be available in Green and Cream and the Large (44mm) will be available in Green and Silver starting at $409.99 in Canada.
