Pixel phones get enhanced security with Google's Identity Check
Google has rolled out its new Identity Check security feature to Pixel phones. This added layer of protection requires you to verify your identity with biometrics and a PIN or password when attempting to change key settings outside of designated "trusted places."
This feature is designed to thwart thieves by making it significantly harder for them to access sensitive information like app passwords, change your PIN, or disable Find My Device. You can designate trusted locations, such as your home or office, where standard authentication methods are sufficient.
Outside of these trusted zones, Identity Check kicks in. Attempting actions like accessing saved passwords, changing the PIN, or disabling Find My Device will require biometric verification and PIN/password entry. This also applies to actions like using autofill, factory resetting the device, modifying biometrics/screen lock, disabling theft protection, viewing trusted places, and managing Google accounts.
While currently available on Pixel devices, Google has announced plans to bring Identity Check to Samsung phones running One UI 7 and other Android devices later in 2025.
