You can ask Alexa to 'Play Something' on Netflix using a Fire TV

If you have a Fire TV, you can now use Alexa to ask the system to use the Play Something feature on Netflix. All you need to say is, "Alexa, Play Something on Netflix." You can use the Fire TV's remote, or if you have the Omni series Fire TV, you can do this hands-free. The feature is available for users in Canada and the US.

Alexa lets you transfer music from one Echo device to another with your voice

Amazon has pushed a new update to its Alexa-enabled devices that brings many new features to its devices. One of the new features is being able to move music from one Echo device to another. You can say things like "Alexa, move my music to the kitchen," or "Alexa, move my music here" when you put on Echo Buds. Or say, "Alexa, pause" on the device playing in your bedroom, but then say "Alexa, resume music" when you're in your living room.

You can also use Alexa to play a show or film on Netflix through Fire TV devices. Just say, "Alexa, play something on Netflix," and then the streaming service will launch a show or film for you. The TikTok TV app is also available exclusively on all Fire TV devices now. Both these features are currently rolled out to Canadian and US users. You can check out the other new features here.

Amazon Alexa can now wait a bit before it answers your questions

Anete Lusina/Pexels

Amazon has updated Alexa to make it wait a bit before it responds to your queries. This feature will come in handy if you have a long question to ask the digital assistant or if you have a speech impediment and it takes you a bit more time to ask or say something. You can enable this functionality in the Alexa app.

Android users in the US can now also type in their requests in the Alexa app. It's in public preview right now, and we're hoping Amazon rolls it out more widely later.

Alexa lets you share songs with friends via Echo devices

It's possible to use your Echo smart speaker to send song recommendations to friends. Amazon announced a music sharing feature that lets you share tracks with your Alexa contacts using Echo devices or the Alexa app. Tell Alexa to "share this song with" and state the contact. The recipient can listen to the song on whatever streaming service they have and send a reaction to it your way.

The voice assistant will try and look for the song on services available to you and your recipient. If it doesn't find it, it'll get a station based on the artist's name and song title. The feature requires you and your contact to have Alexa Communications enabled. Amazon said this is "just the beginning" for the sharing feature, so other sharing capabilities might soon be heading our way.
