Lollipop's memory leak problem confirmed, to be addressed in firmware update

Some Lollipop owners are experiencing some memory leak problems with their devices. Android OS 5.0.1 apparently shuts down apps and constant home screen refreshes. While the Android community has been waiting on Lollipop to come to their devices, it is apparent that there are still a number of bugs to be squashed and that's possibly why it is taking so long to roll out the update.

According to Phandroid, "The thread on Google’s Android Issue Tracker shows a range of Nexus devices afflicted, everything from Nexus 7 2013, to Nexus 4, and Nexus 5 showing Android system eating upwards of 1.2GB+ of RAM (normal usage is around 500MB)." The problem is noted and will likely get a fix soon.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition gets Android Lollipop update

Google is rolling out Android Lollipop to the Google Play edition of Samsung Galaxy S4. It’s joining the list of OTA updates for GPe devices that include the Motorola Moto G, HTC One M7, and HTC One M8. However, unlike the other GPe devices, the S4 is getting the Android 5.0 update instead of the Android 5.0.1. Keep your eyes peeled for the OTA to come your way. But if you use a standard Galaxy device, you will have to wait a bit more.

Android Lollipop release for Samsung Galaxy devices pushed to ‘early 2015’

If you’re using a Samsung Galaxy device and you’ve been waiting to get your hands on Android’s latest operating system, then you’re in for a bit more wait. Vincent Se Young Lee, a Reuters reporter based in Seoul, said Samsung has confirmed they plan to release Android Lollipop for their latest devices like Galaxy S5 LTE-A, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy Note 4 before early 2015. It is a rather vague timeline so you shouldn’t expect it to land on your new Galaxy smartphone/phablet any time soon.

HTC One M7 and M8 Google Play Editions receiving slightly newer Android 5.0.1 OTA update

Ahead of other Nexus and Google Play Edition devices, the HTC One M7 and M8 GPEs are getting the latest Android operating system pretty soon. Android Police reports that owners of both devices are already sending them tips about the update. And it would seem both devices are getting Android 5.0.1 update, which is the slightly newer version of Lollipop. It is said to have addressed a few issues with the first large-scale release of the update.
