Apple releases fix for iOS, macOS security flaw that could allow hackers full control of your devices

If you haven't updated your Apple devices recently, you should do that as soon as possible. There's a major security vulnerability found in iOS and macOS devices discovered by an anonymous researcher that could allow hackers complete control of your device. The bugs existed within WebKit, Apple's browser engine that powers Safari and applications. The company has already released patches to combat these bugs. You just need to update your device to get protected. Apple didn't elaborate on how and where the vulnerabilities work or came from, but security experts warn that it affects almost all iPhone devices and Mac computers running macOS Monterey.

According to the report provided by Apple, the first vulnerability allows hackers complete access to a user's device. It could allow attackers to impersonate the device's owner and run any software in their name. Meanwhile, the second vulnerability was found in the browser engines used by Safari, Mail, and other iOS applications. This issue could allow attackers to execute code that could download malware onto your device.

Apple's Safety Check is meant to help protect people in abusive relationships

Source Apple

One of the new personal safety features Apple introduced at WWDC 2022 is meant to help those in abusive relationships. The new Safety Check feature makes it easier to cut ties with their abusive partners. With iOS 16, you can manage app access and passwords and revoke any access to apps and features like Find My, location, data, contacts, and more. You can also find out who has access to your passwords and information.

And if you need it, there is an Emergency Reset option that resets access for all people and apps at once across devices synced with your iCloud. It's also a way to review your security settings.

Apple will let you edit or unsend an iMessage in iOS 16

Apple

One of the new iOS 16 features will allow you to unsend or edit a message after sending them. But this only works if you're sending a message to another iOS 16 user. And you can only edit or unsend a message up to 15 minutes after it's been sent. After that, it will be uneditable or can no longer be unsent. Those running iOS 15 or earlier won't get this feature. And they might even see the messages you have unsent even if it's no longer visible from your end.

To edit or unsend a message, you need to long-press on the specific line in your conversation and tap on either Edit or Undo Send. As MacRumors pointed out, these features will only be available to blue bubble iMessages and not the green SMS messages.
