You can now use Double Tap on your Apple Watch Series 9, Watch Ultra 2

Apple

The latest Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 have a killer feature: Double Tap. This simple yet powerful gesture is Apple’s answer to a common problem faced by smartwatch users—how to interact with the watch when your other hand is busy holding groceries, a dog leash, or a flashlight. Beyond its convenience, Double Tap serves as an accessibility feature. For individuals with limited arm or hand mobility, it provides an alternative way to control their watch. And the good news is it is now available.

Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 to launch without Double Tap feature

Apple

Double Tap is a new way of interacting with the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. The S9 chip in both smartwatches powers a machine-learning algorithm that “detects the unique signature of tiny wrist movements and changes in blood flow when the index finger and thumb perform a double tap,” according to Apple. The Double Tap gesture can be used to perform the primary function of an app. For example, you can snooze your alarm in the morning by simply tapping your fingers together, without touching your watch.

However, Double Tap won’t be available when the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 hit the shelves next Friday, September 22. Apple says the feature will be added via a software update in October but did not provide a specific date. This is disappointing news for Apple Watch fans who were looking forward to trying out one of the few new features.

What’s new in the Apple Watch Ultra 2?

Apple

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is the latest and greatest smartwatch from Apple. It looks a lot like the first Ultra, but it has a much faster and smarter chip inside. The S9 chip lets you use Siri without an internet connection, and it also improves your location accuracy. You can also enjoy a brighter display (3,000 nits), longer battery life (up to 72 hours in low-power mode), and deeper diving (up to 40 metres) with the Ultra 2.

The new watchOS 10 software adds more features to the Ultra 2, such as widgets, new app icons, and better maps and cycling. You can also customize your watch face with the Modular Ultra option, which shows more data on the edges of the screen. And you can easily answer or end calls, start timers, work as a shutter for your iPhone, and more with a double-tap gesture. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 will be available on September 22 for $1,099. You can pre-order it now.
