An Apple Watch rugged version in the works?

Source: Apple

Apple offers different variants of its smartwatch. But one option it hasn't provided is a rugged option. One you can take on extreme adventures. A new Bloomberg report suggests the company plans to release a ruggedized version of the Apple Watch in the latter part of this year or early 2022.

It will supposedly have a more durable design, offering corner protection and impact resistance. Its target market will be hikers and other extreme sports enthusiasts. This wearable will reportedly have better swim tracking, too. Would you want a more rugged Apple Watch? Let us know!

watchOS 7.4 beta 4 release has the iPhone mask unlock option

Apple has just rolled out the latest beta releases for most of its major platforms, including beta 4 for watchOS 7.4 and iOS 14.5. This update brings the ability to use your Apple Watch to unlock your iPhone while you're wearing a mask.

For public beta testers and developers, you can now try this feature out. The Apple Watch needs to be nearby or on your wrist as well as unlocked and protected by a passcode for this feature to work. And you'll need to have iOS 14.5 on your iPhone, too.

9to5Mac points out that if you unlock your Apple Watch with your iPhone using Face ID before putting on a mask, you can skip the step of entering a passcode on either device.

iOS 14.5 to allow Apple Watch owners to unlock iPhones even with face masks on

Apple iPhone users—especially those whose unit has no other biometric security option other than Face ID—have been left to key in their passcode when they open their devices while wearing masks. While it's a more tedious problem than anything else, it is still an inconvenience. Apple has a provisional solution coming out. The new iOS 14.5 beta update will let Apple iPhone users who also have an Apple Watch quickly authenticate and unlock their phones with the wearable.

This feature is already available on the Mac, but now iPhone users will get access to the function, too. It will require that you have wrist detection enabled on your Apple Watch because you need an unlocked Apple Watch nearby, "on your wrist, unlocked, and protected by a passcode."
