Review: iOS 12

This year’s iOS update brings new life to older iPhones and iPads while it adds smarter usage monitoring in its new Screen Time feature as well as the introduction of group FaceTime as well as Memoji functionality (limited to iPhone X class devices).

Leading up to iOS 12, Apple’s mobile OS hasn’t had the smoothest year. With various bugs like battery throttling and shutdowns on older iPhones, as well as a litany of quirks that disabled mics, broke touch screen functionality as well led to crashing of various apps and services on various models.

iOS 12 solves most of these issues and it should be considered more than just a service pack for Apple’s iOS devices.

Waze finally comes to Apple CarPlay

On the heels of the announcement that Google Maps is available on Apple CarPlay, crowdsourced turn-by-turn navigation app Waze has finally been made available on Apple's smart infotainment system.

Waze, the platform bringing together communities on and off the road, today announced its integration with Apple CarPlay to further its mission of decreasing traffic on the road, and making driving safer and more convenient for everyone on the road. As one of the first navigation apps on the CarPlay platform, the Waze integration will bring the millions of users on CarPlay the opportunity to seamlessly use Waze features directly from their in-car display.

Survey: One in five Canadians admits to distracted driving

Canadians know distracted driving is a big risk factor on the road. While 8 in 10 respondents (79%) to the latest Desjardins survey released today isay they regularly see other drivers using a smartphone behind the wheel, only 38 percent admit to having driven distracted at least once. A further 21% admitted to using their phone while driving within the past year.

Smartphone-related distracted driving is more pronounced with younger drivers. Eleven percent of drivers aged 16-24 admit to driving while using their smartphone on a regular basis, twice the national average (5%).

Samsung launches latest The Frame 4K UHD TVs in three sizes

One of the most innovative products from Samsung is The Frame OLED TV which is flat and mountable like a photo or art frame and can display myriad works of art when not in use and convert into a full-featured 4K UHD screen complete with HDR 10+ technology.

Included with The Frame is access to Samsung's Art Store with over 850 pieces of art that are reproduced in immersive detail on the display. USers can opt to pay a subscription or purchase the art they display for $26.99 each. Aside from art reproductions The Frame owners can access 30 iconic pieces of photography from The New York Times, 21 artworks from the Victoria and Albert Museum and 10 pieces from the YellowKorner Gallery.

The frame is available in Canada in 43" ($1,699.99), 55" ($2,6999.99) and 65" ($3,7999.99).
