Captain America almost had a cameo in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’

Marvel

If one of the early drafts of Ant-Man and the Wasp was going to be followed, we would’ve seen the beloved Captain America show up in the movie. But as the film’s director Peyton Reed explained to RadioTimes.com, they wanted the movie to be a standalone film that’s “in its own world” and so cameos were foregone this time around.

Reed explained that in an earlier draft, Captain America would’ve shown up in a flashback scene that Luis (played by Michael Peña) narrates. He was supposed to recap the events of Captain America: Civil War. He said, “Early on, we had a version where we were going to do a quick version of the tarmac fight from Civil War, with some ridiculous thing where, you know, Captain America has Ant-Man as a baseball and throws him. Because the whole thing is Luis’ version of events, right? We came up with all these ridiculous visuals.” Now, we wish we could’ve seen that. Unfortunately, it wasn’t even shot so it’s not even going to be a bonus clip in the DVD.

The Wasp was supposed to have debuted in ‘Captain America: Civil War’

While Ant-Man and the Wasp properly put Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp as a central character in the film, her debut was supposed to have happened earlier, like Captain America: Civil War earlier. But Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed explained to IGN why this didn’t happen, “There was a point, really early on, where was going to be introduced in Civil War. But there just simply wasn’t screen time to do justice to that character, so we’ve done it here.”

And Marvel seemed to be aware of how late the introduction of The Wasp has been and that it really was a long time coming. “This whole movie was about putting her at the forefront and was about making good on the promise of the end of the last film where she says, 'About damn time.'" Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige tells ComicBook.com. "And that whole movie was about the fact that clearly she was qualified to put on a suit and do what was right but she kept being prevented by her father, for reasons that were revealed in that film and reasons that have to do with her mother and now, of course, she becomes the key hero to attempt to rescue her mom and seeing that father-daughter relationship repaired in this movie was something that was great fun for us and to see here step in the forefront.” What do you think? Would you have wanted to see The Wasp earlier? Let us know your thoughts when you see the film. Ant-Man and the Wasp comes to theatres starting July 6.

‘Marvel Avengers Academy’ get a dose of ‘Civil War’

Captain America: Civil War is now entering schools or more specifically, the Marvel Avengers Academy. A limited time event, that’ll be ending on June 7, has Iron Man and Captain America going at it again. This time, they have opposing views on how to keep the Academy safe and they want the students to join their sides. The game will feature combat and a promise of having new fun ways to send your heroes and troops into the fray, as TinyCo Narrative Designer Allen Warner said. New mechanics are also introduced to help boost strength. And like the Guardians of the Galaxy event, a separate mission board with keep you and your heroes busy while progressing through the main storyline.

The story won’t exactly follow the movie’s teams and Warner said this is part of the story. And you will have access to all available content during this event. Some of the new characters here include Black Panther, Winter Soldier, Crossbones, and Agent 13. Premium unlocks include Wonder Man and Sif as well as Captain America’s WWII Outfit.
