As the 2017 Canadian International Auto Show kicks off in Toronto this weekend, I went back to an interview I did at the Detroit International Auto Show with GM Canada's President and Managing Director  Steve Carlisle about the 2017 Bolt EV, which was the first electric vehicle to win North American Car of the Year, as well as some of the current trends in the Canadian automotive market. GM is testing self-driving Chevy Bolt EV's in Motor City

Bolt EV launched at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show - Gadjo C Sevilla

GM's Chevy Bolt EV is the first mass produced electric vehicle priced under $40,000 and it is also one of the first to feature autonomous driving functionality. Chevy's been testing the self-driving Chevrolet Bolt EVs on public roads in Michigan and will build the next-generation autonomous Bolt EV at its Orion Assembly Plant.

According to the Detroit News, "Chairman and CEO Mary Barra made the announcement during a rare news conference Thursday afternoon at the automaker’s Renaissance Center headquarters in Detroit, calling the state one of the “primary areas” for the automaker to test autonomous vehicles." Test drives are expected to reach the metro Detroit area within the "next few months."

CES 2016: Chevy Bolt EV ushers in age of more affordable electric vehicles

Chevrolet took the wraps off the production version of the anticipated Chevy Bolt at the Internatonal CES in Las Vegas. The 2017 Bolt EV will offer a range of 200 miles on a full battery charge and is expected to sell for under US $30,000.00, which is a price point that many believe is ideal for a viable EV that the public could buy into. This electriv vehicle comes in compact hatchback form, Chevy says it will take 9 hours to charge via your standard power outlet and should be available in North America late 2016.

Replete with the latest technologies, the Bolt EV will come with 4G-LTE, can be monitored and controlled remotely with a smartphone app, as well as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto infotainment links. It also features proactive safety and assistive driving features.
