Netflix to stream 'Cowboy Bebop' anime on Oct. 21

Sunrise

Netflix wants you to check out the original Cowboy Bebop anime ahead of its live-action series adaptation. The streaming service acquired global rights for all 26 episodes. And it'll drop the series on October 21, a few weeks before the live action's November 19 debut. The original anime first debuted in Japan in 1998.

The anime's original voice actors will reprise their roles for the Japanese dub of the show, including Koichi Yamadera as Spike, Taiten Kusunoki as Jet and Megumi Hayashibara as Faye. The original composer Yoko Kanno and original director Shinichirō Watanabe are also involved in the Netflix show. The live-action adaptation stars John Cho as Spike, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, and Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine. And, of course, an adorable corgi as Ein.

Netflix teases upcoming 'Cowboy Bebop' live-action adaptation

Netflix's live-action adaptation of the classic anime Cowboy Bebop is almost here. The 10-episode series will be arriving on November 19. Accompanying the announcement of its release, Netflix shared a photo with Spike Spiegel (played by John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) along with an adorable corgi.

Live-action adaptations are typically met with heavy criticism, so Netflix has some big shoes to fill. The company is working with key creatives from the 1998 anime, including legendary composer Yoko Kanno and original director Shinichirō Watanabe who consulted on the show.

Late last year, Netflix announced that it was making a live-action version of the anime Cowboy Bebop. They were bringing on the anime’s director Shinichiro Watanabe as a consultant. Now, the streaming service announced some of the actors who will be joining the show. John Cho will be taking the lead role of bounty hunter Spike Spiegel. He will be joined by Luke Cage star Mustafa Shakir as Spiegel’s partner Jet Black. The Originals’ Daniella Pineda will play the amnesia-stricken Faye Valentine. And British stage actor Alex Hassell will play notorious hitman and Spiegel’s rival, Vicious. The show has an initial 10-episode run and its first episode is said to be written by Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok screenwriter Christopher Yost.
