Cozmo Code Lab gets tons of new features

Cozmo Code Lab has opened the doors to all users interested in learning and engaging with robotics. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a drag-and-drop programming interface that’s been based on Scratch Blocks project, a collaboration between MIT Media Lab and Google. Aside from getting access to features like facial recognition and path planning, users of Code Lab will be getting a whole lot more starting December 5.

A free update to the app will bring many user-requested features like if statements, math operators, variables, function calls, etc. There will also be vertically-oriented block stacks that closely mirror the way text-based code is structured. Part of this new Code Lab experience, the existing interface will be called Sandbox Mode and the new one will be called Constructor Mode. On top of this, there will also be a new Featured Projects page where the user-created projects will be highlighted.

Anki's Cozmo Robot is now available in Japan, Germany, UK, France and Nordic countries

Anki is bringing its learning robot to more countries starting today. Cozmo is finally ready for his global debut! Currently out in the U.S. and Canada, but this month, we add Japan, Germany, UK, France, and the Nordic countries to the list.

We’ve been working on Cozmo since 2011 and he still continues to evolve everyday. We’re not just launching Cozmo around the world this month, we’re also updating the whole experience for everyone. In June, I mentioned that  alongside a new Collector’s Edition of Cozmo, we’d have some big updates coming. Well, the first of those updates is here and it changes the way you’ll interact with Cozmo on a day-to-day basis.

Watch how Anki created the cool programmable Cozmo robot

Anki may be famous for its exciting Overdrive iOS-enabled racetrack sets but the company has put all of its brainpower and experience behing Cozmo, a delightful programmable robot that's smart enough to remember human faces as well as interact with cats or dogs. Cozmo isn't just a robotic toy, it is a serious tool for teaching coding and programming and has various sets of actions it can learn. We've just unpacked our review unit and are already quite amazed at the range of emotions and capabilities this small yet impressive robot has out of the box.
