Malwarebytes 3.0 causes MS Office to crash on Windows 10 Creators Update

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

I've been experiencing a frustrating issue where my Microsoft Word documents crash whenever I try to cut text for copying or pasting. This issue was so persistent that it rendered MS Word unusable and even caused hours of lost work as well. I eventually got my Surface Book replaced under warranty because of this and another discovered hardware issue. Imagine my surprise when, three days later, after reinstalling all my applications and settings, the issue started up again.

Because of the issue, Microsoft Word users running on Windows 10 Creators Update can't cut or paste content from Word or even paste and save content. Word freezes up, has to be restarted and your document cannot be recovered.

Malwarebytes, is an antivirus and anti-malware solution. Mine is the paid version yet the company still has not made a fix available (instead, they are asking for users to install their latest beta version of Malwarebytes v. 3.1.0.1716. Personally, I avoid installing beta software on my work machine, so I have no recourse but to uninstall Malwarebytes from my Surface Book until they fix this serious issue.

Microsoft to boost accessibility features in Windows 10 in upcoming update

Microsoft is hoping to give people with disabilities better access to its operating system with the upcoming Creators Update features. Some of the new things coming next year include support for braille and new voices for text-to-speech feature. Aside from that, Narrator will reduce volume of other apps only when it’s speaking, Cortana won’t transcribe what Narrator is speaking, and it also has better support for Edge browser—making it easier to fill out forms and navigate by heading level.

Even Office 365 will make it “easy to insert alternative text descriptions for images and meaningful display names for hyperlinks, as well as making the accessibility checker available in more Office applications." There are much more outlined in this post by Microsoft if you want to check out what else they have planned.

What to expect from Windows 10 Creators Update

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Formerly codenamed 'Redstone 2,' Microsoft's next update to Windows 10, coming in early 2017, is called the 'Creators Update,' and this says a lot about the direction the company is trying to go to. The PC market continues to shrink, yet Microsoft expanded its Surface Pro and Surface Book lines while introducing what they believe is a creator's dream machine, the groundbreaking Surface Studio desktop.

There's a lot to discuss regarding Microsoft's entry into the PC desktop game and I'll reserve that discussion until I've had an opportunity to see the hardware for myself and judge what it can do. Grabbing a key slice of the creative market and moving users to Microsoft hardware looks like a good gamble, specially since Microsoft is unique in offering a fully fleshed out multi-touch and pen-input capable OS which it introduced over four years ago with Windows 8 and the first Surface devices.
