Disney+ to air 'The Mandalorian' documentary starting on 'Star Wars' Day

The Child a.k.a. Baby Yoda is arguably the most popular character out of 'The Mandalorian' (Still courtesy of Lucasfilm/Disney)

May 4 is extra special to Star Wars fans. And now there's another reason for fans to get extra excited this coming May 4. An eight-episode documentary on the Star Wars series The Mandalorian will start streaming then. Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian comes from the show's producer Jon Favreau, and it gives us a look at behind-the-scenes footage, cast and crew interviews, and roundtable discussions with Favreau.

According to the press release, the docuseries will also shed light on the show's filmmaking process, its "groundbreaking technology," and the "artistry behind the show's practical models, effects, and creatures," among other things. Lucasfilm didn't say if we're getting a look at The Child's (a.k.a. Baby Yoda) lineage, but we're holding out hope that the series will shed some light on the beloved character's background. New episodes of the show will be available every Friday on Disney+.

'Artemis Fowl' will debut on Disney+ instead of in theatres

Artemis Fowl had its release pushed back to 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. But instead of releasing the film later than the intended May 29 launch, Disney is opting to debut the movie on Disney+ this summer. The company didn't say why Artemis Fowl isn't getting a theatrical release, but it is a good way for Disney to incentivize people to sign up for its streaming service. Artemis Fowl is based on the first book of Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series, which follows a 12-year-old criminal mastermind.

Virtual Disney World on YouTube lets you experience the rides without leaving your living room

You can now go on 360-degree Disney rides on YouTube thanks to the Virtual Disney World YouTube channel (which has been around for a while). With the theme parks temporarily-shuttered because of COVID-19, the YouTube channel gives all of us a way to experience the rides through this immersive technology. It definitely won't be the same experience as being in the parks themselves, but since we need to practice physical distancing, this is a good alternative. Maybe it can even be an excellent way to entertain your kids (or your inner kid at heart) on some days.

'The Simpsons' to stream on Disney+ in its correct aspect ratio by end of May

The wide aspect ratio cut out important visual gags like this scene that should show that the Duff, Duff Lite, and Duff Dry beers all come out of the same spout. (Screencap credit: Tristan Cooper/Twitter)

Disney drew a lot of flak when it launched Disney+ with The Simpsons not streaming in the correct 4:3 aspect ratio. But now, the series will be available in this aspect ratio soon. Almost six months since the launch of Disney+, the company announced that it had found a solution, and it hopes to stream The Simpsons in its proper format by the end of May.

It was sometime in Season 20 when The Simpsons switched from 4:3 to 16:9. The latter format was what Disney opted to stream the series in "to guarantee visual quality and consistency across all 30 seasons." But that came at the cost of losing visual gags because they got cropped out. And fans were unhappy about this development. Now, let's hope Disney will be able to meet the deadline they set so that The Simpsons can be enjoyed in its proper format.
