Netflix’s sci-fi film ‘Mute’ gets first trailer

February is an exciting month for sci-fi fans on Netflix. Aside from Altered Carbon coming out in a couple of days, Duncan Jones’ film Mute is hitting the service on the 23rd. We got a quick look at it earlier this month but now we finally get the trailer, too. And let’s just say with stars Paul Rudd, Alexander Skarsgard, and Justin Theroux we’re intrigued already.

Duncan Jones’ to debut new sci-fi film ‘Mute’ on Netflix on February 23

A project that has been years in the making and is considered a spiritual follow-up to Duncan Jones’ movie Moon is finally seeing the light of day. But it’s not heading to cinemas, instead Mute will be debuting on Netflix on February 23. The sci-fi film takes place in future Berlin where a mute bartender played by Alexander Skarsgard has to put his trust on a pair of American surgeons led by Paul Rudd as he looks for a disappeared woman. The film also stars Justin Theroux.

Jones calls this film is “Don Quixote” as it was supposed to be the first movie he’s made (the first draft was made in 2003) but it got pushed back for different reasons, including the cancers of his dad (David Bowie) and wife, among other things. Netflix basically became the project’s savior. The director sings praises of the streaming service, saying they let creators make things they’re “passionate about” instead of delivering “homogeneous blobs” designed to fit everyone’s tastes.
