Bethesda exec says bringing ‘Fallout 76’ to the Nintendo Switch isn’t ‘doable’

Don’t expect Fallout 76 to make its way to the Nintendo Switch. Bethesda executive Pete Hines confirmed during a panel at an Australian convention this weekend that while the studio considered bringing the game to the platform, it just “wasn’t doable.” Hines says the Nintendo platform is “part of every conversation” when they develop new games because it is considered a “viable platform” but it seems it wasn’t going to work out this time around. That said, Bethesda has ported a lot of its games to the Switch, including Skyrim, Doom, and Wolfenstein II. While you won’t be able to play Fallout 76 on the Switch, it’ll be coming to the Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 14th.

Bethesda explains why it isn’t using Steam for ‘Fallout 76’

Fallout 76 is coming to all platforms next month, including Xbox One, PS4, and PC. But just like it did with the beta, the game isn’t coming to Steam. The game will officially be launched on Bethesda.net. The reason behind this is the developer’s ability to communicate with its players. While Fallout 76 is just the second time the company released an online-based game (first was Elder Scrolls: Online), it seems they are much more confident in their own platform moving forward.

Bethesda’s Pete Hines explains, “It’s an online, always-on game, and is a service. That was also based on our experiences with other online games as well. We felt that having a direct relationship with our customers was super important to use. And so doing it through Bethesda.net exclusively allows us to have that one-to-one relationship with customers, that quite honestly you don’t always have when you go through another third party where they might own the relationship with the customer in terms of being able to email them or to reach out directly and contact them.”

Bethesda announces ‘Fallout 76’ beta size

Bethesda just answered some important questions about the upcoming release of Fallout 76One of the most important and pertinent questions is how big the beta version of the game will be. The game will be at least 45GB to download and it won’t be available to pre-load. That seems to be sizeable for a beta, or B.E.T.A. as Bethesda calls it, but it must be remembered that this “Break-It Early Test Application” is the full game. It will carry over the players’ progress to the full product release, which will be on November 14th. But console gamers will need to download the official version when it comes out, because you won’t be able to transition from B.E.T.A. to the full game.

Some of the other questions Bethesda answered included the need for players to have PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold accounts. As previously mentioned, B.E.T.A. will be coming out first on the Xbox One on October 23rd, and will come out the week after for PlayStation 4 and PC players.

‘Fallout 76’ beta will come to the Xbox One on October 23

Bethesda has just announced that it’ll be releasing the beta of Fallout 76 pretty soon. It’s coming first to the Xbox One gamers who got the exclusive headset on October 23. A week later PlayStation 4 and PC users can expect to get access to the game. Bethesda says the game will not be running 24/7 during the beta test because they want to stress test the game a bit and have as many players on its server as possible to see if it can handle it. According to the developer, “On any given day the game might be up for anywhere between four to eight hours. Focusing as many players as we can into these windows is our prime objective. Then we’ll fix what we need to fix and do it again and again from the start of B.E.T.A. until a few days before launch. We’ll give you as much heads up as possible because we need you to log in during these times and play the game.”

The game itself will be launching on November 14 but the beta access will be given to those who pre-ordered the game, which you can do right from Bethesda’s site.
