Samsung Galaxy S7 edge rumoured to be carrying a 3,600mAh battery

If recent leaks are to be believed, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 edge will be getting a rather sizable upgrade battery-wise. A recent FCC filing shows that one of the new flagships will be sporting a 3,600mAh battery, which will be up from the current 2,600mAh battery of the S6 edge. The screenshot shows the FCC ID A3LSMG935KOR and the battery size. The FCC ID was previously confirmed to be for the S7 edge. There is no other similar screenshot though that confirms this to be the Galaxy S7’s battery.

‘GG1’ is the new Google Glass?

After what was deemed a rather unsuccessful outing for Google Glass, people deemed to have written it off. But Google isn’t ready to thrown in the towel just yet. Droid Life went through FCC listings and found a Google device with the code A4R-GG1. GG1 might be a giveaway but there is nothing concrete yet. But the hardware itself is rather telling. It isn’t classified as a smartphone, tablet, or media device but it packs in dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth LE, and a built-in rechargeable battery. Plus, the aspect ratio of the display is rather similar to Google Glass’ display. Tony Fadell has plans to reimagine the wearable, we’re hoping this is the start of that and we get to see it soon.

Apple's iBeacon hardware revealed in FCC application

Apple's iBeacon technology allows for low-powered transmitters to recognize nearby devices and push localized information. This is useful for retailers or business owners wanting to reach out to customers to push sales and product information. Various third party manufacturers have built iBeacon devices but it looks like Apple is stepping in and looking to create their own line of iBeacon optimized hardware. An FCC application revealed Apple might be considering its own iBeacon devices and while there's no indication this will be made available to to the consumer market, some analysts are seeing the potential of using iBeacons for the connected home via Apple's HomeKit which is their framework for controlling and communicating with connected devices. iBeacon has been kept generally under wraps even if the use of these devices is becoming widespread.

Retailers like Best Buy, Crate & Barrel, JCPenney, Old Navy, Sports Authority, Target and others are said to be testing the implementation of iBeacons, which are optimized for iPhones but will also work with other smartphones, albeit in a limited capacity.
