Samsung's next foldable phone might come with a glass display

Samsung has teased the possibility of introducing a foldable flip phone. And if the latest leak is credible, then it might be the first foldable display to be made out of glass. Phone leaker Ice Universe (a.k.a. @UniverseIce on Twitter) claims that Samsung developed an ultra-thin glass cover for its next folding device—one that sports a flatter screen with fewer wrinkles. It's not as far-fetched as you think since the company has already applied for numerous trademarks around what it has called "Samsung Ultra Thin Glass." But as Engadget points out, we need to approach this leak with caution still. Because even with the photo provided, there's a possibility that it isn't even a Samsung device.

Samsung wants to make a foldable flip phone

Samsung's next foldable device will have those nostalgic over clamshell phones excited. Well, for now, it's just a concept, but it shows that Samsung isn't done with foldable mobile devices yet. The idea behind this new concept is that they want to make smartphones more portable. The company isn't saying whether this will enter into production, but it showcased the idea at its recent developers conference. Rumour has it they are already developing it. The device will reportedly have a 6.7-inch display when you unfold it, and it'll reportedly be thinner than the Galaxy Fold.

If you thought you saw this idea before, well, Samsung isn't the only smartphone maker toying around with the idea of a foldable flip-style phone. Motorola, the makers of the famous clamshell Razr line, will unveil its take on the form factor on November 13.

The S Pen might be coming to the next-gen Galaxy Fold

We’re not exactly counting on this rumour to be true, but the Korean media is buzzing with claims about Samsung’s next Galaxy Fold. Yes, the next one, even if the first one hasn’t even left Samsung’s gates. But we want to indulge the idea a bit and think about what Samsung might bring to the next-gen Galaxy Fold. Rumour has it the Galaxy Fold 2 will get a screen size upgrade, going from 7.3 inches to 8 inches, placing it in Samsung’s tablet territory (close to its own Galaxy Tab A, in fact).

On top of that, Samsung is reportedly toying with the idea of adding support for the S Pen stylus. As SlashGear points out, this raises an important question. For the Galaxy Fold to support the S Pen, it’ll need a Wacom digitizer, which doesn’t exist for foldable surfaces just yet. There have been Chinese digitizers that have been used on flexible drawing tablets, but we don’t think Samsung might head down that route. Or could they? Is there even a point to working on a second-generation one when the first-gen hasn’t even made its way to the public yet?
