A Motorola Razr screen is peeling right on the fold

Raymond Wong/Input

There hasn't been a lot of good buzz around the Motorola Razr, and a new report shows a flaw in the foldable phone. Input's Raymond Wong reported the Motorola Razr's screen separating from the plastic laminate protecting the display right by the hinge, with a bubble forming between the screen and the laminate. Input has owned the unit for a little over a week.

Aside from being an eyesore, the bubble seems to be causing issues with the touchscreen. The display above the bubble still works, but the middle is "not the most responsive." It isn't clear how the issue happened. Wong said he didn't drop the phone or get it wet. He speculated that it could be because of temperature changes, from using it out in the cold and then back again inside his warm apartment. But we don't know if that could be the cause. Motorola hasn't responded to the story yet.

Motorola Razr will be coming to the US starting Feb. 6th

While the US gets a release date for the foldable Motorola Razr, unfortunately, we don't have an updated schedule for Canada yet. It was initially slated for an "early 2020" release here through TelusThe carrier has pre-order notification up for those interested in getting the phone. As for those in the US, the phone was initially supposed to come out in December, but due to high demand, Motorola pushed it back to this year. The announced January 2020 release shifted to pre-orders available exclusively through US carrier Verizon starting January 26. The phones will be released starting February 6. We're hoping we get an update on the date and price soon. In the US, the Motorola Razr is priced at US$1,499 (around CA$1,973).

Motorola to delay release of foldable Razr in North America

And unlike its competitors in the space, the delay isn't because of a technical issue. Motorola told BNN Bloomberg in a statement that it was delaying the launch of the foldable Razr because of high demand. The company isn’t setting a new date yet, but the initial plan was to make it available for pre-order in the US this month, with shipping happening in January. As for Canada, Motorola didn't give a definite date, but Telus recently offered sign-up notifications for those who wanted to know when pre-orders are going to happen.

Motorola promises the new release timeline won't be a "significant shift" from the original launch schedule. The smartphone maker also intends to release the foldable device in Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Australia, but it won't commit to a launch date yet.

Telus will offer the Motorola Razr

One of the ways you can get the Motorola Razr in Canada is through Vancouver-based Telus. The national carrier has a page on its website where you can sign up for updates to know when the phone will be available for order. Outside of showing the storage (128GB) and colour (Black) options, features, and specs, Telus didn't give any other information. When you sign up for updates, you'll need to provide your first and last name, email address, and which carrier you're with at the moment.

We currently don't have the local price of the Motorola Razr, but it launched in the US for $1,499, which is around CA$1,974. It's not a cheap device, but it's still more affordable than the Samsung Galaxy Fold, which is around CA$2,600.
