Foursquare wants to help plan your trips

Foursquare is usually used for checking into places and discovering new places while you’re in the area. The company is taking a new approach though with its new feature. Trip Tips will let you invite your friends and family to help you plan your next vacation. You just need to type the place you plan on visiting in the search bar and Foursquare will give you a link you can send out to friends and family. The responses you’ll get will be tabulated by the site and then placed into a map that can be saved on your phone, making it much easier to access these spots when you need them.

Foursquare now also feeds business data to Apple Maps

Since its inception, Apple has promised they would collect data from varied sources to help develop its Maps application. Sticking to their word, Apple has added Foursquare to its “business listing data.” It’s almost been a month though since they’ve added Foursquare to its Acknowledgements page and so you’ve probably been unwittingly using Foursquare information when you use Apple’s Maps app. Some of the other sources for business listings include Booking.com, Trip Advisor, Yelp, and Yellow Pages. Hopefully the addition will help boost accuracy of the information further.

Foursquare now lets non-members use app

Hoping to lure in more users that will eventually create accounts, Foursquare has opened up its app for people without accounts. With the app splitting into two separate apps (Foursquare and Swarm), Foursquare now works more as a personalized recommendation app. Before users had to sign up to gain access to personalized content. Now, users can bypass that and just head straight to the content they need. Of course, you can add your preferences at any time by clicking on the item or category as well as link up to your social media accounts. It’s just a good thing that you don’t have to go through the sign up process at first. The app is available on Android and Windows Phone and it is currently rolling out to devices on iOS.
