Google is still working on bringing Fast Pair to Chromebooks

Google's Fast Pair feature allows Android users to quickly pair Bluetooth accessories to their phones. And it's been tipped to make its way to Chromebooks. The feature has once again been spotted in a commit to the Chromium Gerrit. But it looks like the company is still working on it as it hasn't been spotted in Chrome OS Canary yet. If Google decides to release the feature, it will make it easier to connect your Bluetooth accessories to your laptops.

Chrome OS to switch to a four-week update release cycle

Google has announced that its Chrome OS platform will follow its browser's footsteps with a four-week update cycle. The new schedule will begin in the third quarter of the year. To sync the OS and browser schedules, Google will skip the M95 release for Chrome OS.

For enterprise and education users who don't want to follow or can't keep up with this faster update cycle, Google will introduce a new channel with a more manageable six-month schedule by the time M96 is ready. The company will announce more details soon.

Google will not release new features to Chrome, Chrome OS to maintain stability

With millions of people adjusting to working from home, including Google's own employees, the company decided it won't be releasing new features to both Chrome and Chrome OS to make sure the software will run without any issues. Chrome's development team also acknowledged in a tweet that its "adjusted work schedules" also influenced the decision to stop releasing upcoming versions of both the browser and its operating system.

The tweet also said, "Our goal is to ensure they continue to be stable, secure, and reliable for anyone who depends on them." They also emphasized that they will prioritize security updates. It makes sense to pause upcoming releases because unforeseen bugs might cause problems that might not be easy to resolve. Users don't need the additional stress these problems might cause.

Google exec: Chrome OS to support Steam

Chrome OS might soon support Valve's Steam gaming platform, at least according to Kan Liu, the director of Project Management of Chrome OS. However, he didn't give any details about how this will work and when they will bring the feature to the public.

Valve's Steam platform can be considered as the leader in the PC game streaming segment. But it is facing stiff competition from the likes of Epic. One way to get ahead of its competitors is being available where they aren't. With Valve's work with the Chrome OS team, then they will be the first in that space, outside of Google's Stadia game streaming service, that is. But Stadia is currently only available in select regions.
