Chrome to start blocking Flash ads on September 1st

Constantly bugged by Flash ads popping up in your Chrome browser? Starting September 1^st, Google Chrome will make Flash-blocking a default setting for its users. Google’s encouraging its advertisers to switch to HTML5 so they won’t be affected by this. For users though, this might better the browsing experience on Chrome and maybe even help it use up less power. Chrome is known to be a power hog so hopefully this change might make things better.

Google brings back old Chrome bookmark manager

Google heard your complaints about the new Chrome bookmark manager and did something about it. So, Chrome now gets back the classic version. According to Google’s Sarah Dee, she wrote on the company’s product forums that they were bringing the old one back. Those who weren’t exactly turned off by the new look can still get it as a Chrome extension.

Google Search on iOS now prompts you to install iOS apps

Google’s App Indexing has been available on Android for a while. The feature pulls content from Android apps to show in your search results and if you don’t have the app installed yet, it’ll share you the link to the app store. This feature is now available on iOS, too, from the Chrome for iOS app or the main Google app. It’s initially available to a few select partners but plans to release it publicly at a later date.

Send notes or set alarms from Google desktop search to your phone

Google is extending the cooperation of its desktop and mobile platform further with new features. This time around, you can write notes and set alarms on Chrome browser on desktop and send these to your to your Android smartphone. You simply need to type “note to self” or “send a note” and you’ll get a Google Now kind of card where you have to input the note and select the device you want to send it to. You’ll get a push notification and your phone and you just need to select whether to copy or save the note. For alarms, you can type “set an alarm” or type in something more specific like “set an alarm for 10:00.” There won’t be a notification this time but you’ll see a toast message and an alarm icon on your status bar.

According to Android Police though, it would seem the feature is currently US-only. A workaround is to add &gl=us to your search URL and the cards should be there.
