Google Clock brings Bedtime Mode, Sunrise Alarm to all Android phones

Two previous Pixel-exclusive features are coming to all Android phones. Bedtime Mode and Sunrise Alarm are making their way to the Google Clock app. If your app has updated, you should see a new Bedtime Mode tab at the bottom right of the app, which also houses the Sunrise Alarm feature. The feature lets you set the time you typically prefer to go to bed, and when you want to wake up.

Bedtime Mode can even play sleep sounds to condition you to wind down and rest. Your notifications will be silent, and emails and texts will be paused to remind you to shut off for the night. Meanwhile, Sunrise Alarm uses the light on your phone to gently wake you up in the mornings. And you can tweak the feature to set a Google Assistant routine to activate in the morning if you want.

If you have the Digital Wellbeing app and have an irregular schedule, it can trigger Bedtime Mode when you start charging your phone for the night.

Google Clock now lets you use YouTube Music as your alarm

If you want to wake up to your favorite music from YouTube Music, then Google Clock will let you do just that. For US users, the feature also comes to Pandora. Last year, Spotify was the first streaming service to support this feature.

To use your streaming service of choice, you just need to head to the alarm section and tap on the sound option beneath any given alarm. Each music service gets its own tab. You can select from a popular playlist or select from Spotify's library of playlists.

Google Clock gets Assistant Routine integration

A couple of days after Google announced it was integrating its Assistant Routines to its Clock app, the company has rolled out the feature. What Assistant Routines bring to the app is you’ll be able to get information or trigger other actions after you dismiss an alarm. For example, you can get your device to tell you the weather, what traffic is like, and your calendar of events and reminders for the day. You’ll know the feature is activated for you if you see the Google Assistant Routine option after the option to label an alarm. Simply follow the prompts to setup your routine and you’re good to go. It must be noted, though, that this only works with Google’s Clock app and not OEM-specific versions of the Clock app. So, make sure you have that downloaded if you want access to this feature.

Google Clock app gets Spotify integration to create customized alarms

Want to wake up to your favourite song? Google and Spotify have teamed up to make this happen. Both free and Premium Spotify users can set their soundtrack of choice to help kick off their days. Premium users can select any track, artist, or playlist to use as an alarm. Just head to the Alarms tab in the Google Clock app. There will also playlist recommendations there based on recently played music or curated Spotify morning playlists. Free users get the feature but the playlists will be in shuffle mode. Once you turned off the alarm, there will also be an option to continue playing the playlist. If you don’t have the Google Clock app, you can download it right from the Play Store. This new feature will be rolling out over the next few days, so keep your eyes peeled for it. According to 9to5Google, YouTube Music will be getting a similar integration soon.
