Google collaborates with Jeremy Scott for new Live Case designs

Hoping to add a bit more color and flair to Pixel and Nexus phones, Google partnered with Jeremy Scott to create new, funky Live Case designs. Channeling the same playful vibe the designer goes for in fashion, the cases are colorful and cartoonish. The cases are plastered with emojis and cartoon characters we’re sure would attract the younger crowd. There are also companion live wallpapers that will rotate through each emoji every day. These can even be animated with a shake of the phone. Aside from that, Google is offering a sticker pack from Jeremy Scott on its Allo app.

The cases are made for the Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P with prices starting at US$40 (about CA$55). These can be designed through Google’s case maker, too. There are nine color and emoji case choices you can mix and match. You can even control the zoom level and rotation.

Public beta version of Android 7.1 to come to some Nexus devices

Nexus 6P, 5X and Pixel C users are in for a treat. The first public beta version Android Nougat or Android 7.1 is coming this month. Nexus users won’t be the only ones to get the first and latest Android updates (especially built-in features to the new Pixel devices such as Google Assistant, Pixel Camera, Pixel Launcher, and 24/7 customer support) but they do get new features such as Night Light and Daydream VR support. Night Light is Android’s answer to Night Shift in iOS. Another one of the new features include the ability for developers to add “app shortcuts” to their Android apps. Google won’t say yet when the widespread release of Android 7.1 will be but those in the beta program don’t have to wait that much longer. You can sign up for the program here.

Review: Google Nexus 6P

Text and photos by Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Out of the box, the Nexus 6P looks and feels like the most luxurious Nexus handset ever made. It is surprisingly thin, swathed in smooth aluminum and glass, and the fit and finish is top notch.

While Google has released not one but two Nexus smartphones for 2015, there’s no mistaking which one is their true flagship showcase for the year. The Nexus 6P is a rebound device designed to win back Pure Android fans, early adopters, and anyone who might have been put off by the Nexus 6’s large size and high price.
