Public beta version of Android 7.1 to come to some Nexus devices

Nexus 6P, 5X and Pixel C users are in for a treat. The first public beta version Android Nougat or Android 7.1 is coming this month. Nexus users won’t be the only ones to get the first and latest Android updates (especially built-in features to the new Pixel devices such as Google Assistant, Pixel Camera, Pixel Launcher, and 24/7 customer support) but they do get new features such as Night Light and Daydream VR support. Night Light is Android’s answer to Night Shift in iOS. Another one of the new features include the ability for developers to add “app shortcuts” to their Android apps. Google won’t say yet when the widespread release of Android 7.1 will be but those in the beta program don’t have to wait that much longer. You can sign up for the program here.

Nexus 6P now available on Google Store in limited configurations

Google's Nexus 6P has been mostly unavailable in the Canadian Google Store, but stock is starting to show up and certain colours are now available for purchase online in 32GB and 64GB configurations. Demand for this flagship, which many consider to be the best Android smartphone in the market right now, has been very high although it seems Huawei can't make them quick enough. The Nexus 6P is available  in Aluminium, Graphite, or Frost and with 32 GB, 64 GB, or 128 GB starting at CAD $699.99

Huawei hopes to make a big splash in North America with Google-backed Nexus flagship

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

The device, together with the cheaper and smaller LG made Nexus 5X, were announced weeks ago, but while the Nexus 5X is available to ship right now, the Nexus 6P remains curiously Out of Stock in Google's online store.

Not exactly a household name in smartphones, Chinese telecoms giant Huawei is actually the third largest phone vendor in the world with a heavy presence in Asia where it is common for consumers to carry two or even three devices under various carriers. Huawei is using its Google-backed Nexus 6P flagship to get noticed in the US and Canada as well as showcase their design and engineering talent.

All the Nexus 6P details leaked in review document

While a few days away from launch (and likely, subsequent short online supplies), Google's newest Nexus devices have already been leaked in various renders and documents, but not like this. A complete reviewer's guide was leaked recently and made available on Imgur

Designed to focus on talking points for product reviewers, the document explains and confirms many of the features coming to the Nexus 6P including a unibody construction, fingerprint reader, improved camera and sensors, USB Type-C charging port and Android Marshmallow preinstalled. What isn't discussed in the document is the price, which will be the biggest factor whether users will flock to the new Nexus devices or consider other mid-range options from the likes of Motorola, HTC, OnePlus and others.
