GoPro debuts compact Hero4 Session

GoPro cameras aren’t exactly space hogs but sometimes you still need something smaller to carry around. That’s where the likes of the new Hero4 Session comes in. The compact action cam is 50 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter than the current Hero4 Black and Silver models. You can set it up via the iOS/Android app or the optional Smart Remote. Yes, it has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. It can shoot 8MP single, time-lapse, or burst stills. Video resolutions are at 1080p/60fps, 720p/100fps, and 1440p/30fps. It also has the single-button mode you’ve seen in the current GoPro lineup.

What differentiates this (aside from its size) is that it’s completely waterproof without needing an additional case for it. You can submerge it down to 33ft. And it has a two-mic audio recording system, which automatically switches between the mics to minimize wind noise. It’ll be available starting July 12 for US$400.

Review: HTC RE mobile action camera

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

HTC, maker of Android and Windows smartphones and tablets, recently decided to make a camera and they called it RE.

RE is unique as a camera because it doesn’t have a viewfinder or a screen, which means you can’t really see what you’re shooting or pointing at unless you use the companion app which works on iPhones and Android devices. HTC's RE is available at Staples Canada for $199.55.

BMW and Mini make it easy to record on-road adventures with your GoPro

BMW and Mini have made it easier to integrate your GoPro with your car. The action cam now works with BMW’s infotainment system. It lets you configure the camera, choose from the pre-set modes, and start and stop recordings right on the in-car system’s screen.

There are a few requirements though. It only works on 2012 or newer BMW and Mini models that come with BMW Apps or Mini Connected option. You can only use Wi-Fi-connected GoPro a.k.a. HERO3+ and you would need to connect to an iPhone 4 or later to the car via USB because this will be the only way to communicate with the entertainment suite using GoPro’s iOS app.
