Apple and Samsung reportedly considering using e-SIM technology

Electronic SIM cards might be in the future of Apple and Samsung users. According to The Financial Times, Apple and Samsung are both talking to mobile telecom industry association GSMA to use e-SIM cards in their devices. e-SIMs are designed to not lock users into a specific carrier network. Users can choose to switch between networks when they choose to. GSMA is confident the “common architecture” will be widely adopted by the industry. But at the moment we’re at least a year away from seeing devices with these cards.

Anne Bouverot, GSMA chief executive, told The Financial Times, "The plan is to finalise the technical architecture that will be used in the development of an end-to-end remote SIM solution for consumer devices, with delivery anticipated by 2016."
