Is the Nokia 3310 making a comeback?

Rumour has it the sturdy phone from Nokia’s past will be making a comeback. Evan Blass a.k.a. @evleaks reported on VentureBeat the possibility of a version of the phone coming out alongside HMD Global’s other Nokia phone launches at Mobile World Congress (MWC), which is happening a few weeks from now. While HMD won’t confirm the news, the unit will supposedly be a nod to the nearly indestructible 3310 of yore and will tout some of the phone’s main features like really good battery life. It’ll reportedly be sold at €59 (around CA$80) and serve as a good backup phone or main phone for those who just want basics from their device. Oh and Snake, how can we forget Snake? HMD is holding its press launch on Feb 26, so we don’t have to wait that much longer to get confirmation.

Nokia’s comeback phone, under HMD Global’s brand, seems to have done well out of the gate in China. The Nokia 6, which sold for around US$245 (approx. Nokia makes a comeback with this Android phone

Nokia is back but only in what’s considered the biggest smartphone market in the world. HMD Global, the company who has the rights to use the Nokia brand for mobile phones, released its first Nokia-branded Android device. Called the Nokia 6, this mid-range smartphone will be sold exclusively on Chinese e-commerce portal JD.com for 1,699 yuan (around CA$320). The Nokia 6 was anticipated for a debut at MWC in Barcelona next month but it looks like they wanted to release the device early.

The Nokia 6 comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD 2.5D curved glass IPS LCD display, mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, Android 7.0 Nougat, 4GB of RAM, 3,000mAh battery, and 64GB internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD). This smartphone is built with a 6000 series aluminum and is equipped with a fingerprint scanner embedded into the physical home button on the front. It also comes equipped with a 16-megapixel rear shooter with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, 1μm sensor and dual-tone flash, as well as an 8-megapixel front camera with an 84-degree wide-angle lens, 1.12μm sensor, and an f/2.0 aperture.

Are two new Nokia smartphones on their way?

The Nokia XL is one of the few Android-power devices the company was able to put out

Spotted on mobile benchmarking tool Geekbench are two Nokia devices that could’ve possibly made it out of Nokia’s stable had they continued on making phones for Microsoft. And while people may speculate that these could be new Android-powered devices from Nokia, which is now being licensed to HMD Global Oy (for mobile devices), the specs are too old to warrant a new release. The first one is the Nokia 5320. It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, and 2GB of RAM. The second one is the unusual Nokia RM-1490 that runs on an AMD A8-5545 APU quad-core chip, Android 4.2, and 2GB of RAM. We haven’t seen an Android device run on AMD before. And GSMArena is speculating this could’ve been a laptop.

But while we might not be getting these, there are Nokia devices in the works. According to Nokia executive Mike Wang there will be three to four Nokia-branded mobile devices (encompassing smartphones and tablets) running on Android that will come out in the fourth quarter of this year. The announcement might be made before the year ends with a launch date set for early next year, depending on how testing and development goes.
