HMD’s Barbie Phone finally gets a release date

Photo: HMD

HMD's highly anticipated Barbie-branded phone will officially launch on August 28. Initially teased in February alongside a lineup of other devices slated for July, the Barbie phone has experienced a slight delay. While the Skyline and Crest models successfully arrived this month, Barbie fans will have to wait a bit longer.

Details about the phone remain scarce, but we know it will adopt a flip phone form factor. This suggests it will run either S30+ or KaiOS, aligning with HMD's emphasis on creating a "digital detox" device, one that's free from endless social media scrolling.

Nokia 3210 gets a modern makeover

Photo: HMD

The iconic Nokia 3210 gets a modern makeover in 2024! While it shares the name of its 1999 predecessor, this new 3210 boasts a design more akin to the recently released Nokia 6310. The phone packs a compact 2.4-inch TFT LCD and a basic 2-megapixel rear camera with flash. It runs the S30+ operating system with support for Cloud Apps, keeping things simple yet functional.

Under the hood, a Unisoc T107 chipset handles processing, paired with 64MB RAM and 128MB of storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD. Modern connectivity is provided by Bluetooth 5.0, while a 3.5mm headphone jack lets you enjoy your favourite tunes. The FM radio is another welcome feature for those who prefer traditional broadcasting.

This Nokia feature phone has a hidden charger for earbuds

Source: HMD

Among the new feature phones that HMD recently announced, this new Nokia one offers a hidden charging compartment for included earbuds. The Nokia 5710 XpressAudio has a typical candy bar-style feature phone look in front, but you get a charging compartment on the back hidden when you slide down the plastic cover. It certainly makes it easier to pack away earbuds. These buds offer up to four hours of music playback per charge or around 2.4 hours of talk time. It doesn't look like the phone will have trouble recharging the device. According to HMD, the removable 1,450mAh battery gets you up to six hours of talk time over 4G and up to 20 days of standby with two 4G SIM card support.

Since this is a feature phone, you shouldn't expect access to services like Spotify and Apple Music. The Nokia 5710 XpressAudio runs on a stripped-back Series 30 Plus operating system. That means you can only play back MP3s or listen through the built-in FM radio. It is coming to the UK for £74.99 (around CA$116) later this month.

HMD launches first Nokia tablet

HMD

HMD has just announced its first Nokia tablet, and it's one promising a large battery and affordable price tag. The Nokia T20 comes equipped with a 10.4-inch display with chunky bezels, 2K resolution, and 400 nits of brightness. It's relatively thing at 7.8mm and light at 470g.

One of its biggest selling points is its large 8,200mAh battery, promising 15 hours of use between charges. It supports 15-watt charging, but it only comes with a 10-watt charger in the box. The tablet runs on a Tiger T610 eight-core CPU, up to 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and includes an 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front. There's an optional LTE version, but we don't know how much that costs. The Nokia T20 retails for US$250 (around CA$314 converted).
