HTC One A9 finally gets Android Nougat update

HTC promised it’ll release Android Nougat update for the One A9 15 days after it released on the Nexus. That promise wasn’t kept but we guess better late than never? It’s been over 140 days since the Android 7.0 came to the Nexus 5X and 6P but finally Nougat update is rolling out to the unlocked version of this mid-range device.

As a reminder, some of the features coming to Nougat include multi-window, better notifications, and revised quick settings, among many others. If you’re an A9 user, keep checking your phone to see if the update already made its way to you. Make sure you have enough battery when updating or keep your device charged while you do so.

Qualcomm releases list of Quick Charge 3.0-compatible devices

There are different fast charging technologies out on the market. One of the more well-known ones is Qualcomm's Quick Charge. Now out with version 3.0, there aren't that too many devices yet that support it. But just so you know which ones do, Qualcomm released the list of Quick Charge 3.0-compatible smartphones. These include the LG G5, HTC One A9, HTC 10, HP Elite X3, Xiaomi Mi 5, General Mobile GM 5+, and LeTV MAX Pro. Of course, for quick charge to work, you'll need a certified Quick Charge 3.0 power adapter for it. Quick Charge 3.0 is said to charge devices 38 percent faster than Quick Charge 2.0 and twice as fast as version 1.0.

Review: HTC One A9

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

The One A9 is HTC's take on the midrange market and while this model received a lot of criticism for looking just like an iPhone 6, which it totally does, it does manage to diversify HTC's product portfolio with the HTC One M9 remaining the flagship device and the Desire line as the more affordable option.

I commiserate with HTC. The company has long led the Android OEM space with stellar and bold industrial design and materials and way before competitors like Samsung or LG went for metal and glass look and feel. For the A9, the couldn't simply put out a smaller HTC One (that's something they've already done before but which didn't really work out too well).

HTC One A9 comes to Canada unlocked for $549

Photos by Alex Davies

HTC is launching an entirely new smartphone. The HTC One A9 diverts dramatically from the HTC One M9 and HTC Desire lines by offering an all aluminum and glass design that's more rounded, thinner, and features a fingerprint reader.

What's also interesting about the HTC One A9 is that it won't be sold through carriers like previous HTC models were. It will be sold directly by HTC via their HTC.com/ca website and will cost CAD $549 unlocked.

Available in Carbon Gray, Opal Silver, Topaz Gold and Deep Garnet colours, the HTC One A9 features a 5-inch 1080p display, the latest Android Marshmallow OS, a 64-bit octa core Snapdragon 617 processor, variants will include either 32GB of storage with 3GB of RAM or 16GB with 2GB of RAM. The new HTC One A9 will support Android Pay where accepted (US).
