Review: iOS 10

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

iOS 10 is the next best thing to a complete redesign of iOS because it relies on our familiarity with the OS but also pushes various critical functions forward in order to save time and make using our devices more efficient.

On the surface iOS 10, which was made available online as a free update to existing and eligible iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch devices, doesn't seem like a very huge visual upgrade.

The most venerable and really, oldest, modern mobile operating system, still retains much of the look and feel we've been used to for going on 10 years now. iOS 7 brought the biggest visual update and we've since seen refinements and locking down of the user interface for more precise and interoperable features.

The latest Google Photos ad disses the 16GB iPhone's lack of storage

Google is having a little fun with lower storage iPhones as evidenced by this ad which is promoting Google Photos and its ability to smartly free up space. The ad shows various amazingly perfect moments being captured from an iPhone's point of view only to get the dreaded (but all too common) Storage Full error. Apple is expected to retire the 16GB capacity iPhone models, maybe even this year, but at least it is good to know that we have some valid software and cloud storage options to keep our volumes of photos and videos for posterity.

The Apple Beat: The iPhone reaches 1 Billion units sold

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Apple's iPhone has reached a major milestone. The company has confirmed that there have been 1 billion iPhones sold.

“Last week we passed another major milestone when we sold the billionth iPhone. We never set out to make the most, but we’ve always set out to make the best products that make a difference. Thank you to everyone at Apple for helping change the world every day," Apple CEO Tim Cook said earlier today.

This achievement is rare in consumer technology, most specially in mobile phones since manufacturers usually launch various new models each year. The iPhone has been, Apple's singular mobile handset since 2007 and really represents one product that has been painstaikingly refined and iterated on a yearly basis.

Purported iPhone 7 video leak hints at larger camera, lack of headphone jack

There have been a significant number of purported iPhone 7 leaks from casemakers, component manufacturers and part sourcers. While everything is far from official until Apple reveals the next generation iOS flagships, we're seeing some details consistently standing out.

The above video posted on Weibo shows the alleged design of the iPhone 7's enclosure with redesigned antenna lines, a larger camera bulge and, no surprise, no headphone jack. Overall dimensions of the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 dummy shows that it is quite identical to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. iPhone 7 is also expected to have a Smart Connector and additional speakers, similar to the iPad Pro line. This is all we know so far from extremely unofficial and dodgy sources but its good to see that iPhone rumours are still as exciting in 2016 as they were in 2007.
